Home lighting will be in the palm of your hand if GE Lighting and Quirky are successful at persuading consumers to buy new smart LED bulbs, the first of many consumer products  that are controlled by a smart phone.  

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Light bulbs are about to get a lot smarter — smart enough to let consumers control their household lighting from anywhere with Internet or cellular access.

Five-year old, an on-line invention company, has teamed with 122-year-old General Electric Co. to create an easy, intuitive digital system controlling LED household lighting.

The result is the GE Link — a “smart bulb system” created by the two companies that is controlled with a smartphone. The bulb and operating hardware are sold at Home Depot, both online and in stores.
