The lowly light bulb will shine bright for a little while longer.

Back in the spring, the federal government quietly put off plans to ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs.

The original plan would have had stores halt sales of the venerable lights in 2012.

Now, the deadline’s been pushed back to 2014.

Although the delay means Canada will be a little behind the U.S. in terms of phasing out energy-inefficient lights, it also means we can take time to discuss a few issues that could crop up when the age-old light bulb bites the dust.

One is cost. Where light bulbs can be purchased for less than a dollar apiece, alternatives can cost consumers much more.
